SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.40 g, 10 h), in the style of Eukleidas, circa 400/395-390. Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to left, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying right, crowning the charioteer with a wreath; in exergue, grain ear. Rev. [ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ] Head of Arethusa to left, her hair in ampyx and sphendone, wearing triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, four dolphins. Gulbenkian 296 (same dies). Fischer-Bossert, CAT, 87b (this coin, O32/R59). Jameson 1924 (same dies). SNG ANS 1379 (same dies). Tudeer 87 (same dies). A beautiful example of this lovely issue. Some delaminations, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
